5 Day Field Training Officer (FTO) CT

This 5 Day Field Training Officer Class is based on the original San Jose FTO Program. It is CALEA and Massachusetts Accreditation (MPAC) compliant. It is designed for Veteran Officers to teach them how to develop the skills necessary to effectively train and properly evaluate today's new recruit officers in preparation for their solo patrol duty. 

Officers will learn ways to tailor their department’s program to fit their department’s own needs.

• Officers will learn about different "Adult Learning" styles and how to apply them to this generation.

• Officers will practice completing Daily Observation Report (DOR) forms and learn how to consistently evaluate and grade their trainee's performance using "tips and tricks" as well as their Standardized Evaluation Guidelines (SEGs).

• Officers will learn about training lesson guides and how to create them.

• Officers will understand and learn how to manage potential liability issues in training new officers.

• Officers will leave with extensive knowledge and a comprehensive Field Training Officer Manual to guide them through the FTO Program and training new recruit officers.

• Officers who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of completion. Officers must complete all 5 days of training. 

Instructor:

Sgt. Joseph Thibodeau is a 30 year veteran of Law Enforcement. He is a level IV FTO Coordinator/ lead Instructor for the Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC). He has been instructing at numerous police academies and privately since 2000 and trained over 1700 veteran police officers in FTO. He is considered a subject matter expert in FTO.
